India's Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement.

The excitement for India’s 15-member squad selection for the Asia Cup 2025 is getting higher day by day. It has been reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee will meet at the headquarters in Mumbai on August 18, 2025. All eyes will be on the 15 players, who will be the front-runners to get selected for the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.

There are murmurs of the selection committee picking the Test captain of the Blue Brigade, Shubman Gill, for the Asia Cup. The right-handed batter, during the five-match Test series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, ended as the leading run-getter with 750 runs in 10 innings, scoring four centuries.

If Gill comes into the squad, then they will have to leave out one of Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Verma. That’s India’s top three batters of the eleven. In case Gill comes into the eleven or the squad, then Verma is likely to get out of the team. Abhishek and Samson opened the batting for 12 T20Is against England, South Africa, and Bangladesh since late 2024.

India to announce Asia Cup 2025 on August 19 at BCCI headquarter

Suryakumar Yadav, the T20I captain of the national side, has already passed the fitness test and will lead the side. Hardik Pandya, the premier all-rounder, was also part of the fitness assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Shreyas Iyer, despite his Champions Trophy 2025 heroics, is unlikely to get selected.

Rishabh Pant won’t be part of the squad, due to the continuous balance of the side, and also the fact that he is recovering from the broken foot injury that he picked up during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. Jitesh Sharma is likely to be the second wicket-keeper batter.

Apart from India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, it has been reported that the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 squad will also be revealed on August 19, two hours later. Asia Cup will start on September 9, before India plays their opening game against the UAE on the following day. Their clash against Pakistan will take place on September 14 in Dubai.
