England player Tom Hartley is hoping that the time he will get to spend with the veteran Nathan Lyon will be a game-changer for him. Notably, they both are set to play at Lancashire during the county championship this year. However, Lyon is one of the world’s best spinners at the moment and he played a key role in Australia’s Test win over New Zealand in Wellington.

“He’s someone I want to try to replicate” – Tom Hartley on Nathan Lyon

He picked up a 10-wicket haul during the match as the Aussies continued their dominance over their Trans-Tasman rivals in the Tests. Speaking to the BBC, Hartley said that Lyon is someone he wants to learn from and replicate and also shared his admiration at how the off-spinner bowls on flat decks in Australia.

“He’s someone I want to try to replicate. To be an international cricketer you have to able to perform in different conditions and Nathan is a guy that can really help me. I hope he’s going to be fantastic for me and be a real game-changer. The type of bowler he is something I’m trying to work on. The way he operates in Australia on pretty flat wickets, there are times when English wickets are pretty similar. He’s going to be great to learn off,” said Hartley.

Coming to India has made believe I can perform at this level: Tom Hartley

Tom Hartley also said that coming to India has made him believe that he has the talent to perform at the highest level.

“I’d not really played a whole lot of red-ball cricket, but coming here has made me believe that I do have a talent for this and I can perform at this level. When I go out on the field I’m really trying, believing and thinking that I can do well. It’s not just a case of bowling and hoping the batter chips one up, or trying to go at two or three an over. It’s been a complete change of mindset,” concluded Tom Hartley.

India and England will play against each other in the final Test in Dharamshala from March 7.
