The 17-year-old cricketer from Melbourne tragically passed away after being struck in the neck by a cricket ball during a training session earlier this week. Emergency services were called to the Wally Tew Reserve in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs on October 28, around 5 p.m., where young Ben Austin was practising ahead of a local cricket match. Witnesses reported that he collapsed in the nets moments after the ball hit his neck during practice.

Paramedics provided advanced life support and immediate medical assistance before Austin was transported by road ambulance to Monash Medical Centre in Clayton in critical condition.

Despite all efforts, he could not be saved. The Ferntree Gully Cricket Club confirmed his death on the morning of October 30, sharing their deep sorrow and condolences over the devastating loss to the cricket community.
