“Trust me…”- Abhishek Sharma reacts to Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill’s struggle in recent T20Is
The left-handed opening batter of the Indian cricket team, Abhishek Sharma, has reacted to the current lean patch of captain Suryakumar Yadav and opening batter Shubman Gill's in recent T20Is for the last few months.

Even though India has taken the lead of a 2-1 margin in the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa at home, the eyes are on the struggling batting of Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill, both of whom have gone through a lean patch with the bat in the last few months.
Shubman Gill managed only a 28-ball 28-run knock during their small chase of 118 runs against South Africa in he third T20I at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, while Sky managed only 12 runs from 11 balls. Abhishek Sharma, the Indian opening batter, reacted to the white noise.

“I’ll tell you one thing straight away. Trust me, Suryakumar and Shubman will win matches for India in the World Cup, and matches before the World Cup as well. I’ve played with them for so long, especially with Shubman. I know where Shubman can excel, in what conditions, irrespective of the opponent. I have full trust in him. Very soon, everyone else will gain that trust in him, too.” Abhishek expressed in the press conference.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, both players will be under pressure to back up with some runs. Gill will be under more pressure, given Sanju Samson has been waiting on the bench despite having a strike rate of nearly 180 at the opening spot in T20Is.
“Sport teaches you a lot of things. How you come back is more important. There was a lot of learning after the last game in the meeting, and then we did what we did in Cuttack today. I've been batting beautifully in the nets. When the runs have to come, they'll come. Not out of form, definitely out of runs.” Suryakumar shed light in the post-match presentation.
The fourth T20I of the series will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where the hosts will look to seal the series. If they do so, then they may give chances to the new players in the fifth game in Ahmedabad.
