KL Rahul has been superbly consistent with the ball in the last six to seven seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). But he had not found the same strength and power in the ongoing edition with a few low scores. Delhi Capitals’ next encounter against the Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi was a golden chance for the right-handed batter to change the fortunes.

On the second ball of the third over against Arshdeep Singh, KL Rahul was dropped by Shashank Singh, who dropped a simple catch when the right-handed batter pulled the short length delivery. That was the opportunity for the opener to seize the moment.

The Bengaluru-born batter has been in an aggressive mood from the start of the innings. He drove Xavier Bartlett through the deep backward point fence for a boundary before backing it up with another four over the wide long-on fence.

Rahul finished the Arshdeep over with a massive six. He rocked back and pulled the short ball over the deep mid-wicket region before finishing the fifth over of the innings with another six against Vijaykumar Vyshak over the fine leg region.

The PBKS captain, Yuzvendra Chahal, introduced the leg spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, into the attack during the seventh over of the innings. On the second ball, he stood tall and launched it over the long-on fence before bringing up his fifty off just 26 balls with a double.

On the third ball of the 11th over of the innings, Rahul advanced down the wicket and thumped the floated delivery of the bowler for a boundary before smashing another boundary in the same position.

Both Rahul and Nitish Rana posted a century partnership for the second wicket as the Delhi side found themselves in a strong position with the bat in the first innings. The latter nailed Bartlett’s third over for a 31-run over to put enormous pressure on the Delhi-born.
