The fourth Test of the five-match series between India and England will be a do-or-die affair at Old Trafford in Manchester. The visitors came into the fixture after their 22-run defeat during the third encounter at Lord’s and now are behind by a 2-1 margin. In nine attempts of the red-ball format at this venue, the tourists have faced four defeats, with no victory yet.
During the nine-day break between the Test matches, the Indian side, under Shubman Gill’s captaincy and Gautam Gambhir’s coaching, decided to make a trip to Beckenham. The bowlers toiled hard in the middle while the batters prepared themselves against different styles of bowling. On the other hand, Manchester went through various spells of rain in this passage of play.

The forecast isn’t sounding at this venue for the course of the game, with rain predicted to be a part of the five-day clash. However, over the last few days, the weather has improved and is expected to get better for the next week. The sun is expected to shine in several periods of the game. It’s a vital game from both sides ’ perspective.

The surface looked a bit damp, with the ball expected to swing and seam under overcast conditions. England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, sent a strong message to the curators on the importance of a surface that will be a bit fast and helpful for the pacers. India’s previous Test at the venue came in 2014 when they faced a humiliating defeat under MS Dhoni.
The tourists’ camp has already received several injury blows, with all-rounder Nitish Reddy getting ruled out for the rest of the series with a ligament tissue damage, while Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer, received a finger injury while fielding. Akash Deep is not fit, reportedly, to be part of the fourth game as they have added Ansul Kamboj as a cover in the squad.
