Virat Kohli came into the second ODI of the three-match series against South Africa at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur fresh from his 135-run knock in 120 balls in the opening game at the JSCA Cricket Complex in Ranchi, while Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t enjoy a great time in the last game.

But the duo looked in supreme touch as they posted a fine century run-partnership for the third wicket after India lost their openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, early in the innings. The duo faced the pacers with aggression, besides showing calmness against the spinners as the hosts made their way to 168/2 in 26 overs.

With a single, Gaikwad celebrated his second half-century in the ODI format. He smashed 56 runs in 57 balls at a strike rate of nearly 100 with the help of five boundaries and one six, while Kohli clubbed 56 runs in 53 balls, thanks to four fours and one six.

Earlier in the game, India, put into bat first, lost Rohit Sharma as their first wicket with the Mumbai batter getting outside edge into the wicket-keeper’s gloves, while Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn’t handle the short ball and was bounced out for 22 runs.
