The second day’s play of the Duleep Trophy 2026 semifinal between the East Zone and the Central Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru was focused on the fiery 92-run knock from the 15-year-old youngster, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, opening the batting against the Central Zone. 

Sooryavanshi, during the previous game of the tournament against the North East Zone, failed to impress with the bat before turning up with his left-arm spin to pick up two wickets. But the domestic red-ball event was a vital tournament for him to grow in the longest format of the game.

Sooryavanshi's 92 off 81 balls powers East Zone's century stand vs Central Zone

Sooryavanshi opened the batting for the East Zone with the veteran domestic batter of Bengal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and put up a fine 161-run opening stand off just 25.2 overs. The 15-year-old southpaw smashed two boundaries in the second over of the attack against Yash Thakur before nailing the pacer for a huge six in the fourth over.

Sooryavanshi continued his superb batting with fiery boundaries and sixes to celebrate his fifty. He made the landmark with a huge six against Saransh Jain, who returned to the XI after completing his services for the Indian side during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Meanwhile, the Bihar-born didn’t back away from the huge shots and made his way to 92 runs off 81 balls before being dismissed. His knock was arranged with seven boundaries and as many sixes at a strike rate of 113.58. Kumar Kushagra, the number three, was dismissed on a golden duck as East Zone reached 183/2 after the first session of the second day.

The Central Zone, on the opening day, were bundled out for 266 runs in the first innings, with Rinku Singh getting a fine knock of 60 runs off 88 balls, striking eight boundaries, while Aryan Juyal nailed 46 runs in 113 balls, thanks to his six boundaries. Yash Thakur, at number 11, contributed an unbeaten 30 runs.

Mukesh Kumar and Abhijit Sarkar picked up three-wicket hauls each, while Mohammed Shami and Kounain Iqbal had a pair of two-wicket hauls with the ball.
