Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was eager to get the ball in hand during the Duleep Trophy 2026 clash between East Zone and North East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. And when he finally got the ball from Ishan Kishan, he made an impact as a left-arm spinner with two wickets in the second innings.
The red-ball domestic event has been incredibly vital for the 15-year-old, who has been trying his best to get attention in the four-day format, having already impressed the world with his attacking batting in the white-ball formats, including the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sooryavanshi opens up on Ishan Kishan's "risky" call to hand him the ball
On the eve of their semifinal clash against the Central Zone at Ground 1, Sooryavanshi highlighted how he had been trying his best to get wickets with the ball. The BCCI shared the video on social media platforms.

“If you ask any batter, he enjoys bowling. Or if you ask a bowler, he enjoys batting. The opponents weren't losing wickets, so I was asked to bowl 2-3 overs. Ishan Bhaiya thought that he was taking a risk in giving me the ball. But he didn't know that I'm a wicket-taker.” The Bihar-born said.

“I always knew that even if I take five wickets, I will only get three overs to bowl. So I tried to bowl as well as I could. I was just trying to repeatedly land the ball in one area. It's a lot of fun. I didn't do well with the bat in the last match. So it's a lot of fun to contribute to the team's bowling. So it's a lot of fun.” Sooryavanshi addressed.
How Sooryavanshi struck twice in four balls
On the second delivery of the second over, Sooryavanshi dismissed Kishan Lyngodh. The batter tried to smash the full delivery out of the park but failed to get the full elevation from the middle of the bat and lobbed it in the air before the sub-fielder, Denish Das, grabbed a fine catch to send the batter back to the hut.
A couple of balls later, the left-arm spinner with another full-length ball and dismissed Imliwati Lemtur, who was wrapped on the pads before the stumps as the spinner showed his good skills with the ball.

The southpaw would hope to continue his good performance with the ball, but he would also look to focus more on his batting performance at the opening position.
