The second T20I of the five-match series between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester held a different significance in cricketing history after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his debut in international cricket, becoming the youngest player to feature in international cricket.

Sooryavanshi also became the youngest-ever player to be part of the T20I format. There was a massive expectation that India would perhaps hand him his debut during the two-match T20I series against Ireland. But after waiting in those two clashes along with the first T20I in Durham against England, the moment finally arrived.

The moment — How Sooryavanshi's first international six off Jofra Archer unfolded

Sooryavanshi’s first ball in international cricket was a massive swing and a massive against the short of a short-of-length delivery against Jofra Archer before continuing the same approach against Josh Tongue, who also made his debut in T20Is for England. He didn’t look set against the right-arm pacer at all in the very first over.

The Bihar-born welcomed his IPL team-mate, Jofra Archer, in his second over with a six. He was down on his one knee and backed away before getting under the length to lift it over the keeper’s head. It went sailing over the ropes as it became his very first six at this level.

Sooryavanshi went after Tongue in the same aggressive fashion. It was a slower delivery from the right-arm pacer, which was floated up on the off stump right in the slot. The southpaw picked the bones out of it and waited in the crease before launching it over midwicket.

The youngster was well supported by Abhishek Sharma from the other end. The Punjab-born nailed Tongue for a boundary before clearing his front leg and belted it down the ground over mid-off for another six. He nailed two successive boundaries against Will Jacks.

India celebrated a successful opening partnership of 50 runs off 4.5 overs before Sooryavanshi was dismissed on 14 runs off 10 balls with the help of a couple of sixes. Will Jacks pushed through flat outside the off stump as the batter charged down the ground and was outfoxed, and Jos Buttler did the rest to stump him out.
