BCCI Names Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in 15-Member India-A Squad for Upcoming ODI Tri-Nation Series

Indian cricket has always found room to bring the youngsters into the senior squad to provide them with a platform to showcase their skills. And their move to pick the 15-year-old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, in the 15-member India-A squad for the upcoming tri-nation series against Sri Lanka-A and Afghanistan-A. 

The  has rewarded a few more stars, including Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, for their superb performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. However, Sooryavanshi’s achievement will remain a major talking point in the squad selection.

Sooryavanshi has been sensational with the bat during the recent T20 league. The left-handed batter smashed 440 runs in 11 innings at an average of 40 and a blistering strike rate of 236.55, thanks to two half-centuries and one century at the best score of 103 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He has already celebrated two centuries in just 18 innings of the IPL.

In the recent U-19 Men’s ODI World Cup 2026, the Bihar-born clubbed 439 runs in just seven innings at an average of 62.71 and a strike rate of around 170, thanks to three half-centuries and one century, with the best score of 175 runs during the final against England in Harare.

The wonder kid has done really well for the U-19 side and the Rajasthan Royals. And he will hope to shift the good work into the senior side.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given the leadership responsibility to Tilak Varma, who is in a position to take the middle order’s role in the ODI side. Riyan Parag, who has also been part of the 50-over side of the blue brigade in the past, has been handed the vice-captaincy.

On the other hand, they have picked Arshad Khan, who has shown his skill of crossing the 150 kmph speed. Anshul Kamboj is part of the squad, currently the third leading wicket-taker of the IPL 2026 with 19 wickets in 11 innings at an average of under 20.

The white-ball series will be played in Dambulla, while the multi-day games will take place in Galle. The opening fixture will be on June 09 between India and Sri Lanka, and the final takes place on June 21.
