Vaibhav Sooryavanshi likely for Ireland T20Is, to achieve rarest feat in Indian cricket
The left-handed opening batter of the Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, impressing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, is set to debut in T20Is against Ireland.

After the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, India will make a trip to Ireland for two T20Is on June 26 and 28 ahead of their white-ball series in England. That will be a golden chance for them to hand out a few debut caps and try out their young players. And the reports have claimed the left-handed young opener, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, could break into the 15-member squad.
The opening batter could, in this process, become the youngest player to represent the country. He has taken on some of the best bowlers in the world during the IPL 2026, including Josh Hazlewood and Jasprit Bumrah, for towering sixes, and got appreciation from Virat Kohli.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to become youngest Indian player in Ireland T20Is
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already become the third leading run-getter of the IPL 2026 with 200 runs in five innings at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 263.15, thanks to a couple of half-centuries. He started the campaign with a 17-ball 52-run knock against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
He backed it up with a 39-run knock in just 14 deliveries against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Guwahati during the 11-over curtailed encounter before thumping the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for 26-ball 78 runs. He doesn’t seem to be overpowered by the early reputation in his career, and that has kept him on the right route.
The selectors are in no mood to wait before including the teenager in the Indian side, especially after his impressive performance with the bat. The Indian Express has reported that the selection panel would pick him for the upcoming series in Ireland as well as the tour of Zimbabwe later this year.
The IPL chairman, Arun Dhumal, praised the left-handed batter on his X account (formerly known as Twitter), which is another boost in the youngster’s career.
“What an amazing batting display by Vaibhav Suryavanshi this @IPL 2026 season. This prodigy certainly deserves to debut for Team India @BCCI as the youngest given his performances. It’s rare you get chance to pick up someone so talented and young too. Certainly deserves his name to be recorded as youngest debutant for India.” Dhumal wrote on X.
Sooryavanshi to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record
As of now, Sachin Tendulkar stands as the youngest male cricketer to represent India when he marked his debut in the longest format against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989 when he was 16 years and 205 days old. Overall, Shafali Verma is the youngest player to play for the blue brigade at the age of 15 years, seven months, and 27 days.
If the Bihar-born plays the tour of Ireland, he will also break Shafali’s record. He has caught the attention of the selection committee for the board. The Ireland trip will be followed by the England tour, where India will play five T20Is and three ODIs, starting on July 01.
