Virat Kohli's 55th ODI ton with a six India vs West Indies

The former captain of the Indian side, Virat Kohli, celebrated his 55th century of the ODIs with a massive six during India’s chase of 296 runs during the opening clash of the three-match series against the West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. That was a special moment of the evening, undoubtedly.

Kohli came into the series after a decent break from the England series, where he notched up two successive half-centuries in the last two encounters at Edgbaston and Lord’s. Kohli has changed his approach of late, being an aggressor from the start and continuing the same till the end.

Kohli’s first boundary of the chase was a six. He swivelled and pulled the short delivery with a top edge for a massive six before getting another boundary into the left of the deep backward square leg. The best part of his batting is how quickly he turns a start into the 30s and the 30s into the fifties.

It wasn’t different in the chase either. The Delhi-born celebrated his half-century off just 40 balls with a six. He didn’t hold back and lofted the delivery through the line and sent it in front of the sightscreen. He soon completed his milestone of 15000 runs in the 50-over format.

Kohli later reached his three-figure mark with a massive six against Gudakesh Motie. He got close to the pitch of the ball and lofted it over long-on for a huge six. It was the third-fastest ODI century of his career in 74 balls.

India completed the chase to seal victory in the 1st ODI against West Indies.

West Indies, after being out to bat first, made a solid start with the bat, thanks to the 135-run opening stand between half-centurion John Campbell and Justin Graves, who celebrated his century. Later, Amir Jangoo remained unbeaten on 58 runs off 43 balls to shoulder them to 295 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

India also went off to a rollicking start in the chase. Their captain, Shubman Gill, was dismissed for 110 runs off 108 balls while Kohli remained unbeaten on 139 runs off just 88 balls, thanks to 10 boundaries and nine sixes to complete the chase by eight wickets.
