Virat Kohli has created another special moment in his ODI career by becoming the fastest batter to reach 15,000 runs in the format. He achieved the milestone during India’s chase against West Indies in the first ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kohli came into the match needing 59 runs to reach the landmark and completed it in his 303rd ODI innings. He reached 15,000 runs in just 46 balls and became only the second men's batter after Sachin Tendulkar to cross the mark. Kohli also acknowledged Tendulkar by raising both hands after reaching the milestone.

The achievement adds another major record to Kohli’s remarkable ODI career. With the crowd applauding his special moment, the former India captain once again showed why he remains one of the most successful batters in ODI cricket.

Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record — reaches milestone in just 303 innings

Virat Kohli has broken Sachin Tendulkar’s record for reaching 15,000 ODI runs.  The Indian cricket's posterboy completed the milestone in his 303rd ODI innings during India’s first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.

Tendulkar needed 377 innings to reach 15,000 ODI runs, meaning Kohli achieved the feat 74 innings faster. The record adds another major achievement to Kohli’s long and successful ODI career.

Kohli started the match with 14,941 ODI runs and needed 59 runs to reach the landmark. He reached the mark while leading India’s chase and became only the second men’s batter after Tendulkar to score 15,000 ODI runs.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli has reached another historic milestone in his ODI career by completing 15,000 runs against the West Indies. He became only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to cross the landmark, adding another major record to his remarkable journey in the format.

Kohli has remained among the leading run-scorers in ODI cricket for several years. He moved past former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara in October 2025 to become the second-highest run-scorer in the format. Tendulkar leads the list with 18,426 runs, while Sangakkara scored 14,234 runs.

Kohli has also built an impressive record of centuries in ODI cricket. He has scored 54 hundreds in the format, the most by any batter, and completed his 80th ODI half-century during India’s chase against West Indies. His journey from 10,000 to 15,000 runs shows his remarkable consistency in the 50-over format.

Virat Kohli has played another brilliant knock in the first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. He reached his 55th ODI century in style, hitting Gudakesh Motie for a six over long-on and sending the home crowd into wild celebrations.

With this century, Kohli has now scored 10 ODI hundreds against West Indies. He has also scored 10 centuries against Sri Lanka, putting him among the batters with the most ODI hundreds against a single team. Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma have also scored nine ODI centuries against Australia.

Kohli reached his century in 74 balls, making it the third-fastest ODI hundred of his career. His fastest came in 52 balls against Australia in Jaipur in 2013, followed by a 61-ball century against Australia in Nagpur in the same year. His latest hundred once again showed his ability to control a run chase with attacking cricket.
