Virat Kohli, one of the best batters across formats around the globe over the years, is known for his glorious drives, cut shots, or others- in a word, those shots where the technique of the batter needs to be perfect, besides holding the shape. But does that mean he doesn’t play any unorthodox shots in the game, or does he not have those types of shots in his bag?

A video has gone viral around the social media platform, which has displayed several instances of Virat Kohli playing some fabulous shots around the ground, both for India and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The fans will hope to see more of these during the upcoming 2025 season of the competition.

The first shot came from the home series in 2017 against New Zealand when Kohli used the short ball and the pace of the Kiwi pacer, Tim Southee, to guide that delivery over the wicket-keeper for a boundary. It was one of those cool shots where he didn’t use anything apart from the shape of the bat.

The second shot of the video was for the RCB side against the Punjab Kings’ left-arm spinner, Axar Patel, when he reverse-scooped the delivery behind the wicket-keeper’s region for a strong boundary. Meanwhile, he played such a cheeky shot from the off stump against Amit Mishra and the Delhi Capitals.

The fourth and fifth shots of the video were perhaps one of the most outrageous shots when he walked across to wide of his stance and timed the ball into the leg side for a couple of boundaries. It becomes nearly impossible for the captains and the bowlers to make a particular plan and place a stale field for these kinds of shots.

Kohli has tried several innovative shots in practice, and when it comes to execution in the middle, there is hardly anyone better than him in world cricket. To successfully defend their title in the IPL 2026, Kohli will have a massive role to play for his franchise with the bat and in the leadership group.
