Former South African legend AB de Villiers has revealed his all-time World XI, with two Indian cricketing greats making the cut. Currently leading the South Africa Champions in the ongoing 2025 World Championship of Legends (WCL), the 41-year-old named his dream team in a video shared by tournament presenter Shefali Bagga on Instagram on Wednesday, July 23.

In his XI, de Villiers picked Graeme Smith and Matthew Hayden as the openers, followed by Ricky Ponting at number three and Indian star Virat Kohli at number four. He slotted Steve Smith and Kane Williamson in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, while MS Dhoni was chosen as the wicketkeeper at number seven.
For the bowling attack, he went with pacers Mitchell Johnson and Mohammad Asif and legendary spinners Muttiah Muralitharan and the late Shane Warne. Glenn McGrath was named as the 12th man.

De Villiers also starred on the field recently as South Africa Champions clashed with India Champions in Match 6 of WCL 2025 on Tuesday, July 22, at the County Ground in Northampton. Batting first, South Africa’s top order, including Hashim Amla (22), Jacques Rudolph (24), and Sarel Erwee (15), got off to decent starts but couldn’t capitalize.

However, in the middle overs, de Villiers produced a stunning knock, reaching his half-century in just 28 balls. He remained unbeaten on 63 off 30 deliveries, smashing three fours and four sixes. With help from JJ Smuts (30 off 17), they added 71 runs in just 33 balls for the sixth wicket, guiding their team to 208/6. Chasing a revised target of 200 via DLS, the India Champions struggled and finished at 111/9 in 18.2 overs, falling short by 88 runs as captain Yuvraj Singh could not bat due to injury.
