Virat Kohli picks up Orange Cap after his innings against LSG
Virat Kohli, featuring as an Impact Substitute for the first time in his Indian Premier League career, made an immediate impact with an aggressive start. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener struck six boundaries and a six within his first 14 deliveries, showcasing his ability to innovate and score freely. Lucknow Super Giants contributed to his momentum by consistently overpitching, allowing Kohli to capitalise. In contrast, RCB’s bowlers earlier had adopted a more disciplined approach, hitting the deck hard, with even swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar refraining from pitching the ball too full.
LSG appeared tactically second-best for a significant phase of the game, as Kohli raced to 32 off just 14 balls, helping RCB post 60 runs in the Powerplay. However, once the field spread and LSG adjusted their lengths, scoring became more challenging. Kohli’s scoring rate slowed thereafter, managing 17 runs off his next 20 deliveries before being dismissed for 49 off 34 balls.
His dismissal just short of a half-century left fans disappointed, while Anushka Sharma, present in the stands, was visibly surprised by the outcome. Her reaction was captured on camera and quickly gained traction on social media.
Despite missing out on the milestone, Kohli achieved a significant personal feat by overtaking Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad to claim the Orange Cap, having now scored more runs than Klaasen’s tally of 224 in the tournament so far.

RCB register easy win against LSG at their home ground
Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a convincing five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the Indian Premier League 2026 season. The Rishabh Pant-led side struggled to show intent with the bat, which ultimately proved costly. Aiden Markram managed just 12, while Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran scored one each. Late contributions from Ayush Badoni (38) and Mukul Choudhary (39) helped LSG post a modest total of 146.
RCB’s bowling unit delivered a clinical performance, led by Rasikh Salam Dar, who claimed four wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar supported well with three scalps, while Krunal Pandya picked up two. Josh Hazlewood impressed on his return to the XI, especially during the Powerplay, as RCB dominated the first innings.
In response, Virat Kohli, playing as an Impact Player due to a minor knee concern, provided a strong start with 49 off 34 balls. After his dismissal, skipper Rajat Patidar (27 off 13) and Jitesh Sharma (23 off 9) maintained the momentum. Tim David and Romario Shepherd then finished the chase comfortably with 29 balls to spare.
For LSG, Prince Yadav stood out with three wickets, while Avesh Khan claimed two. However, expectations remain high from Digvesh Rathi, who is yet to make a significant impact this season.
With this win, RCB have climbed to the top of the points table, while LSG currently sit seventh, ahead of Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
