Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in their Indian Premier League 2026 clash at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. Chasing a modest target of 147, RCB completed the task comfortably in just 15.1 overs.

Contrary to expectations of a high-scoring contest, the pitch offered some resistance and played slower than usual. However, RCB’s top order adapted well, with Virat Kohli anchoring the innings with 49 and captain Rajat Patidar contributing 27, ensuring a steady and controlled chase.

With this win, RCB moved to the top of the points table, thanks to a well-rounded performance, particularly from their bowling unit, which had faced criticism earlier in the season. Fans praised the team’s improved display, while concerns continue to grow around LSG’s form as they suffer back-to-back defeats in the tournament.

Key moments that defined the RCB vs KKR clash

Royal Challengers Bengaluru began their chase with an early setback as Phil Salt departed cheaply. However, Virat Kohli steadied the innings with a composed yet fluent knock, combining control with measured aggression. He capitalised on scoring opportunities, including a commanding over against Prince Yadav, and forged a crucial 57-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal. Kohli eventually fell for 49, narrowly missing out on a half-century, after being caught at long-on off Avesh Khan.

Captain Rajat Patidar then ensured there were no further hiccups, taking control of the chase with confident stroke play. His aggressive intent, highlighted by multiple sixes, effectively broke Lucknow Super Giants’ resistance. Valuable contributions from Jitesh Sharma helped RCB complete the chase well inside 16 overs, despite losing a couple of late wickets.

Earlier, RCB’s pace attack laid the foundation for victory with a disciplined and clinical display. Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam Dar combined effectively to dismantle the LSG batting lineup. Hazlewood struck early, including the key wicket of Nicholas Pooran, restricting the scoring rate in the Powerplay. Bhuvneshwar maintained tight control through the middle overs, while Salam’s late breakthroughs ensured LSG were bowled out for a modest total of 146.

For LSG, Mitchell Marsh top-scored with 40, while Ayush Badoni (38) and Mukul Choudhary (39) provided useful contributions. However, regular wickets prevented any sustained recovery. Rishabh Pant’s brief, injury-interrupted innings further dented their momentum.

In the end, RCB’s superior execution with both bat and ball secured a comprehensive victory, reinforcing their strong all-round form and strengthening their position in the Indian Premier League 2026 standings.
