The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) displayed a clinical bowling performance during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Lucknow Super Giants at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to bundle out the visiting side for just 146 runs. That was the moment when they just needed to play sensible cricket to complete the easy chase.

For the entire tournament, Bengaluru has been phenomenal with the bat inside the powerplay as their opening pair of Virat Kohli and Phil Salt have used the aggressive batting to kill most of the games in the first six overs of the innings. In this clash, Kohli displayed his skillful batting.

After the dismissal of Devdutt Padikkal during the eighth over of the innings, Rajat Patidar, the RCB captain, made his way into the middle. He missed the first delivery against Avesh Khan before opening his account with a single towards the mid-on region.

The stand-in LSG captain, Nicholas Pooran, brought back Mohammed Shami into the attack as Patidar smashed the fourth delivery for a massive six. It was an overpitched ball as the right-handed batter swung his willow hard with a big back lift over the wide long-on region for a six.

Shami dragged his length and was on the legs as Patidar spotted it early and swiveled across to handsomely hook it over the fine leg region for back-to-back sixes. He welcomed Prince Yadav for a six, nailed over the long-off region, before being dismissed.

The Madhya Pradesh batter lost his shape in the process of another lofted shot. It went a long way in the air as Digvesh Rathi grabbed the simple catch to send back the batter for 27 runs off 13 balls, shouldering on one boundary and three sixes.

RCB completes easy chase with aggressive batting

Bengaluru could have tried to show their defensive approach in the chase, but they didn’t. Kohli smacked his first 15 deliveries for 35 runs, but he was unfortunately dismissed for 49 runs in 34 balls, thanks to one six and six boundaries at a strike rate of 144.12.

Jitesh Sharma, who couldn’t do much for the event, nailed a fantastic knock of 23 runs in nine balls with a couple of fours and a pair of sixes. Bengaluru completed the chase in just 15.1 overs to go at the top of the points table.

Brief Scores: RCB 149/5 (V Kohli 49, Prince Yadav 3/32) beat LSG 146 (M Marsh 40, R Salam 4/24) by five wickets.
