Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Lucknow Super Giants by 6 wickets in Match 23 of IPL 2026 at the Chinnaswamy stadium on 15th April. The team successfully chased a mere total of 147 with ease in just 15.1 overs. Romario Shepherd made the winning boundary, while Virat Kohli had an important innings worth 49 from 34 balls. Rajat Patidar (27 off 13) and Jitesh Sharma (23 off 9) also played quick innings to make the chase comfortable.

Earlier, RCB bowlers did a great job to restrict LSG to 146 in 20 overs. Rasikh Salam has been the star with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for 24 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled excellent support to him with 3/27, while Josh Hazlewood bowled tightly and took 1/20. RCB also good in the field, with quality catches from Phil Salt and Tim David. For LSG, Mitchell Marsh scored 40, Ayush Badoni made 38, and Mukul Choudhary added 39, but they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Rishabh Pant also had to retire hurt early and couldn’t make an impact later.

In the chase, Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a good start, scoring 60 runs in the powerplay. Kohli led the chase, and Patidar and Jitesh hit big shots. However, Lucknow Super Giants made a comeback effort, with Prince Yadav taking 3 wickets and Avesh Khan bagging 2 wickets. The target proved too small despite some quick wickets falling, with Tim David and Romario Shepherd guiding RCB to win the match comfortably and moved to the top of the points table.

RCB vs LSG: Who said what after the match

Josh Hazlewood (Player of the Match):

"It's been a bit of a long road the last few months but got the rust out I guess, last game against Rajasthan. Felt much better today and the rhythm feels in good shape. A little bit of everything there. You have to look at who you're playing against, what players down the other end and the conditions obviously play a part. Quite a slow wicket today. A little bit up and down so I just had to whack away that length and get the results. Allround effort today. I thought all the bowlers bowled unbelievable. I'd like to have a few funky deliveries but with a rhythmical action the way I have gotten, you sometimes find out with a Test bowler is quite hard. Good slow balls - always working on them. You always got to keep adding to the armory and keep moving forward. That's one of our real strengths. Bhuvi in particular but all around the bowling attack is just summing up the conditions as early as we can through conversations and communication on the field and we go from there and we know what's working. That's a huge plus for us. (on Rasikh Salam) He obviously missed the first few games but selected in the last couple and he's training the house down. He's got some nice skills. We've seen that in the last few games. Bowls the hard overs as well. It's a big tournament for Rasikh. The plan is to hopefully keep playing. Schedule is pretty good from hereon in so fingers crossed I can keep playing."

Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain):
"Well, it was fantastic to see. The good thing was we won the toss and the way the fast bowlers hit the deck was really nice to watch. Even I don't know. I think he is a very courageous bowler I would say and at the same time even Suyash has been brilliant this season for us. The way he was bowling stump to stump was just tremendous to watch. (On the experienced duo of Hazlewood and Bhuvi) Of course as a captain, if you have two specialist T20 bowlers, it makes your job a lot easier. They know what to do with the new ball and they bowl according to the situation. All the other bowlers bowled remarkably well. From the start of the IPL, the entire team is working really hard on their fielding and the intensity I would say. Salt has taken some splendid catches this season. Tonight's catch was a lot easier for him. (On being too confident to make it to back to back finals?) No, I think we have a long way to go. We are taking one game at a time."

Nicholas Pooran (Lucknow Super Giants Stand-in Captain):
"First of all, I would like to thank Jesus Christ. A tough evening for us. I felt we were below par on that track. Anything around 175 would have been competitive for us tonight. There's no secret that we have been struggling as a batting unit the entire season, and tonight we paid the price. Everything is in hindsight. It's T20 cricket. It's a tough game. It's a tough game to stay consistent. The guys have been working hard. Credit goes to them. I think it's just a matter of time. Wait for the opportunity and grab it. I'm feeling really good. I'm striking the ball nicely. Unfortunately, it hasn't gone my way this season so far. Hopefully, things go my way going forward."
