In the first qualifier of the 2025/26 season of the Big Bash League (BBL), Babar Azam fell for a two-ball duck in the first qualifier against the Perth Scorchers at the Perth Stadium, which provided a struggling start to the Sydney Sixers side. The entire crowd roared as the Pakistan captain returned to the dressing room, putting his head down.

The wicket keeper, Josh Inglis, was so quick that the foot of the batter was in the air, and in a matter of millimeters, he broke the foot before the replays confirmed that he was dismissed for a two-ball duck. That was not a strong start for the Sixers in the chase, as they lost two more wickets and found themselves 34/3 inside the power play.

Earlier in the game, the opening batter of the Scorchers fin put up a strong knock of 49 runs in 30 deliveries with the help of four sixes and two boundaries before the middle order of the home side struggled to get going from the start, before their captain put up a decent knock.

Ashton Turner got 29 runs in 21 deliveries, thanks to his three boundaries and one six at a strike rate of nearly 140, while Jhye Richardson got a scratchy 20 runs to shoulder the side to 147 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, the Sixers reached 63 in their nine overs for the loss of four wickets as the only man to stand out on a tough surface was Steve Smith, who was unbeaten on 32 runs in 18 balls, having already registered two boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 180.
