Watch Dinesh Karthik analyzing the captaincy approach of Shubman Gill before ENG vs IND 4th Test in Manchester.

The former wicket-keeper batter, Dinesh Karthik, has analyzed the current captain, Shubman Gill’s, captaincy after the first three Tests of the five-match series at Lord’s. There were different opinions on what he should have done in that situation when the entire team went after the two England openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, at Lord’s.
Karthik reckoned that Shubman Gill did the right thing in that position. He also described the words of the Punjab-born, who addressed that he wasn’t pleased when the two home openers took 90 seconds more than scheduled to take the field on that evening session at Lord’s.

I have enjoyed him as a captain so far. On the field, he is improving. But off the field, he has mostly impressed. Yesterday’s press conference was box-office in terms of apparently he just went quiet till the last question was asked about why things have just gotten a bit spicy. And he said, ‘Look, England were 90 seconds late and I don’t appreciate that.’ And I liked it.’ Karthik expressed during a recent interaction on Sky Sports Cricket.

Gill was vocal in the press conference on the eve of the game, where he cleared the air. It can be easily done by the right-handed batter, who has been in a dream touch with over 600 runs to be the current leading run-getter of the season.

‘You need to be feisty. You need to have an identity as captain, and Shubman Gill, from the third day at Lord’s, has shown. That’s how he wants to lead this Indian team, and that’s his way. But the point is it’s made for a thrilling Test series here and his batting has backed it.’ Karthik pointed out.
Captaincy comes with various challenges. Many opinions will start to come from different directions for the individuals. But the most important part will be to understand the individual mindset and use that in the field. At the end of the day, that individual will be answerable for whatever he does in the middle.
