In a match brimming with milestones and momentum swings, it was an unexpected bit of banter at the bottom that gave fans a final talking point at Headingley. As India’s second innings began to unravel late on Day 4, Ravindra Jadeja was left with No. 11 Prasidh Krishna for company. With six wickets tumbling for just 31 runs, every run from the tail mattered, and to his credit, Krishna stuck around longer than most would’ve expected.

Tasked with surviving two deliveries to close out the 96th over, Krishna managed to hold his ground against England's pacers. But then came a cheeky exchange that changed everything. Harry Brook, standing in the slip cordon, couldn’t resist. “Can you hit big sixes?” he asked Krishna, his voice picked up by the stump mic. Krishna, not one to back down from a little chat, smiled and shot back, "If I had to, I would be called Brook."

Moments later, with adrenaline and mischief perhaps clouding his judgment, Krishna went for the glory shot. He got down on one knee and tried launching Shoaib Bashir into the stands. The result? A miscue straight to Josh Tongue at deep midwicket, who completed a smart diving catch. Just like that, India's innings ended with Krishna dismissed for a valiant 11-ball duck and a memory that will live on for the banter if not the batting.

Krishna’s short stand, a bit of banter, and India’s push for victory on the final day

Though his innings added only 15 runs alongside Jadeja for the last wicket, Krishna’s stay was valuable in forcing England captain Ben Stokes to bring back Bashir. That slight delay could have brought India the momentum they’ll now carry into Day 5.

The Karnataka pacer will be eager to redeem himself with the ball. Despite a rough outing in the first innings, 3 wickets for 128 runs in 20 overs, he did manage to dismiss key batters, including Harry Brook (for 99), centurion Ollie Pope, and debutant Jamie Smith.

India’s target of 371 looks daunting for England, but not impossible, especially at Headingley, a ground where high chases have been pulled off before. Still, with Bumrah, Siraj, and Ashwin in the ranks, India will believe they hold the upper hand.

Whether Krishna gets another chance to make a bigger impact or not, his brief face-off with Brook was a reminder that sometimes, cricket isn’t just about stats, it’s about the stories that unfold in the margins.
