Teasing batters by the wicket-keeper is celebrated as a weapon to break the batter’s concentration and push them to play a wrong shot and get dismissed out of nowhere. In the field, there were several instances where the close-in fielders and the wicket-keeper batter had a word with the batter and tried to come under their skin.

A video has gone viral on social media platforms where everyone has praised the confidence level of the wicket-keeper and his trust in the bowler, which actually resulted in the dismissal of the batter on the very next delivery. The keeper, suddenly, told his teammates that the batter would get out on the next ball.

He also went a step ahead and toldbye-byeto the left-handed batter on his face. Now, the left-arm spinner, named Dagar, gave air to the next delivery and pitched it on the fourth stump line of the batter, who stretched his front foot and went for a booming drive to get a big shot.

Even though the southpaw batter went near the delivery, he couldn’t read the spin and was beaten by it. The ball drifted on the line and went through the gap between bat and pad to break the furniture. The teammates started to celebrate as the wicket-keeper again cheered withbye-bye, I told you guys!!remark.

This reminds me of the London Test several years ago between England and the West Indies. The Caribbean batter, Tino Best, was batting well with a good partnership. He was not looking to get dismissed, and that was when Andre Flintoff, from the slip region, teased the batter and asked him to use his feet to smash a bit shot. Best went down the track and got out on the very next ball.

It was the same planning that the late, great former Australian spinner, Shane Warne, used to do. He used to have aggressive words with the batter to get under their skin. It’s like a method for the spinner to pick wickets in his prime days.
