Virat Kohli’s return in India through the opening ODI of the three-match series against South Africa was a really memorable one. The right-handed batter, at number three, smashed a fine knock of 135 runs in 120 balls at a strike rate of 112.50 with the help of 11 boundaries and seven sixes as his 52nd century made him at the top of the centuries in one format.
Kohli didn’t enjoy a great time against Australia in the previous three-match ODI series down under. In the opening game at the Optus Stadium in Perth, he got a duck and followed it up with another duck in the second clash at the Adelaide Oval. In the third and final encounter, Kohli remained unbeaten on 74 runs to complete the chase.

Heading into the second game against the Proteas, Kohli received a grand welcome at the hotel. The kids welcomed the batter with roses as the Delhi-born picked up all the roses and entered the hotel with smiles. It was a grand celebration for the city, hosting an ODI after a long time.

In the opening clash at the JSCA International Cricket Complex in Ranchi, India posted a massive score of 349 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Kohli smashed 135 runs along with their stand-in captain, KL Rahul, clubbing a dashing 60 runs in 56 balls at a strike rate of 107.14 with the help of two fours and three sixes.
Apart from these two, Rohit Sharma nailed a fine knock of 57 runs in 51 balls at a strike rate of 111.76 with the help of five boundaries and three sixes. Ravindra Jadeja also clubbed 32 runs in 20 balls at a strike rate of 160, thanks to two fours and one six.
In reply, the visitors fell short of the target by 17 runs. Their three batters- Matthew Breetzke, Marco Janse, and Corbin Bosch- celebrated their respective half-centuries. But none of these could take them over the line.
