Her daughter Varsha worked as a columnist but sadly died by suicide in 2012 at the age of 56. Her youngest son, Anand Bhosle, manages her career. Her grandson Chaitanya (Chintu) Bhosle is also in music and is part of a boy band called “A Band of Boys.” Her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle works in business and manages an Apple store in Mumbai.
She started singing at the age of 10. Her first song was for the Marathi film Majha Bal in 1943. She entered Hindi films in 1948 with the song “Saawan Aaya” in the film Chunariya. She became more popular after her songs in the film Naya Daur in 1957. She sang for many leading actresses and became one of the top playback singers in India.
She recorded songs in many Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Punjabi.
