The start of the second morning of the fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester was grim, with Rishabh Pant getting ruled out for the remainder of the series, as the reports claimed. However, in positive news, the left-handed batter joined the dressing room an hour after the game started, which showed the courage of the southpaw.

Pant was seen to be standing behind the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, as the crowd gave a loud cheer when they found him on the screen. Ravi Shastri, the former head coach, on commentary, called the moment as the veteran reckoned that Pant might have put his batting gears on and could walk into the middle if the team requires.

‘Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements.’ The BCCI revealed the status of the injury.

Pant was on 37 runs when he tried to play a premeditated reverse sweep against Chris Woakes. He missed it while the home side challenged the decision for the leg before the stumps (LBW) dismissal. The replays showed that the ball hit the batter on the bridge of the foot. Even though he survived, Pant looked in serious pain as he received some treatment in the middle.

As time was moving, the umpires forced the doctors to call for help, as later on, he was carted off the ground. At that time, there was no point in the batter walking, let alone batting. Later, it was revealed that the Delhi batter fractured the toe.

It hasn’t been a great couple of weeks for the player with injuries. At Lord’s during the last fixture, he was hit on the finger after he failed to grab the wobbly seaming delivery from Jasprit Bumrah as Dhruv Jurel kept wickets for him for the rest of the clash. However, this foot injury is worse than that.
