How Pant read Sooriyabandara's mind before the stumping

Rishabh Pant quickly noticed that Pasindu Sooriyabandara was looking to step out of his crease. The Indian wicketkeeper was heard telling the fielder at mid-on to be ready. Pant seemed to understand what the Sri Lankan batter was planning and prepared himself for a possible stumping.

Sooriyabandara then charged down the pitch to attack Manav Suthar. The Indian spinner reacted smartly by slowing his delivery and bowling it wider outside the off stump. Sooriyabandara had already committed to the shot and made a desperate attempt to reach the ball but failed.

Pant stayed alert behind the stumps and collected the ball comfortably. He then completed a quick stumping before Sooriyabandara could return to his crease. The clever planning by Pant and Suthar helped India dismiss the Sri Lankan batter for 92.

He was heard on the stump mic saying, “Restless ho raha hain, mid-on ready rehna. (He is getting restless; someone in mid-on, get ready.)," Pant also asked the fielder at mid-on to stay ready, showing that he had already anticipated the batter's next move.

Suthar then bowled a slower delivery wide of the off stump as Sooriyabandara charged down the pitch. The batter missed the ball, allowing Pant to collect it and break the stumps quickly. Sooriyabandara was dismissed for 92, just eight runs short of his maiden Test century.

Sooriyabandara's 92 ends as India regain control of the 2nd Test

Pasindu Sooriyabandara top-scored with 92 as Sri Lanka reached 229/6 in their second innings at stumps on Day 4 of the second Test in Colombo. Sri Lanka were forced to follow on after India took a big first-innings lead.

India had declared their first innings at 503/9 before bowling Sri Lanka out for 290. Sonal Dinusha scored a century for Sri Lanka, while Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar took three wickets each. Saransh Jain also picked up his first Test wickets.

Sri Lanka reduced the deficit in their second innings, with Kamindu Mendis scoring 55. However, India remained in control of the Test and will look to complete a 2-0 series win after their victory in the first Test at Galle. Play was called off early due to heavy rain, with Sri Lanka still 16 runs ahead and Sonal Dinusha and Keshara Nuwantha at the crease.
