On paper, India’s men’s team will play three ODIs against Australia from October 19. These matches are important to check how both teams are preparing and what more they need to improve for the 2027 World Cup. However, in India, this series is mostly about Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Gautam Gambhir.

The two former ODI captains and the current head coach have been in the news for the past two months, even though they have hardly been on the field together. Now, as India started their first practice session in Perth, a video of Rohit Sharma talking with Gautam Gambhir has gone viral on social media.

Rohit-Gambhir Chat Creates Buzz Before Australia Series

The clip is from Star Sports on X (formerly Twitter). It shows a short moment of Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir talking before Rohit moves to the nets. Since then, fans of the Mumbaikar can’t stop talking about it. Watch it here:

Rohit looked in good touch during the nets. He is returning to competitive cricket after a few months and has only a few days to get ready before playing on one of the fastest pitches in the world. Reports say Rohit and Gambhir had a long chat on the sidelines before he started batting in the nets.

Publicly, both Gambhir and new captain Shubman Gill are saying similar things about Rohit and Kohli. They praised their experience but also said that both need to perform well in the Australia series.

Gambhir said after the recent Delhi Test against the West Indies, “The 50-over World Cup is still two and a half years away. It is very important to stay in the present. They are quality players, and their experience will be valuable in Australia. Hopefully, both will have a successful tour.”

Gill also said, “They have been playing for India for 10–15 years and winning matches for us. The experience they bring is what every captain and team wants. We just want them to go out there and show their magic.”
