Sanju Samson’s stunning one-handed catch in the final over sealed India’s dominant 72-run victory over Zimbabwe in the Super 8 clash.

India produced a dominant performance against Zimbabwe in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Batting first, India scored a massive total of 256/4 in 20 overs. In reply, Zimbabwe could manage only 184/6 in response, giving India a resounding 72-run victory. The match was marked by massive sixes, accurate bowling, and an outstanding fielding effort.
Zimbabwe started the innings aggressively and with intent, despite the large target in front of them. Brian Bennett led the charge with an excellent unbeaten 97 off 59 deliveries. Sikandar Raza contributed a quick 31, while Tadiwanashe Marumani contributed 20. But the required run rate kept mounting as Indian bowlers remained composed under pressure.
The highlight of the match came in the final over with a stunning piece of fielding. On 19.3, Shivam Dube bowled a slower delivery at 101.5 kph, full and outside off. Tashinga Musekiwa, who had scored 7 off 4 balls, tried to swing hard across the line. He edged the ball, and it flew quickly to the right of wicketkeeper Sanju Samson.
Samson’s One-Handed Screamer Lights Up Chepauk
Sanju Samson was quick to react and dived to his right, taking an outstanding one-handed catch. The catch was likened to a goalkeeper’s save in a football match due to its pace and difficulty. The Chepauk crowd went into raptures as Samson finished the catch safely. It was a moment that showcased his top-level wicketkeeping skills.

Earlier, Samson had also contributed 24 runs off 15 balls in India’s innings. India’s big total was powered by Abhishek Sharma’s 55, Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 50 off 23 balls, and Tilak Varma’s explosive 44 off 16 balls. Ishan Kishan (38) and Suryakumar Yadav (33) kept the momentum going. Despite Bennett’s fighting knock, Zimbabwe ended at 184/6, as Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Dube picked up key wickets to confirm India’s 72-run win.
