Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order Indian batter, has been in the news after he was omitted from the 15-member squad of the Asia Cup by the BCCI selection committee, under the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, and the captain, Suryakumar Yadav. The Mumbai batter has been out of the T20I side for more than a year and was expected to make it into the eleven.

Shreyas Iyer’s sister, Shresta Iyer, has posted a reel on Instagram where he revealed the story of them enjoying their off period in a restaurant. That was the time when they met a magician, who walked up to them to show their skills with the cards.

The magician asked the batter to sign his autograph on the card. After Iyer did it, the magician did his trick and got the card inside the phone of the batter. The IPL-winning captain and his friends were surprised at the trick as the fans in the restaurant realized it and started to cheer.

Shreyas, who is out of the Indian T20I side with 1104 runs in 47 innings at an average of 30.66 and a strike rate of 136.12, with the help of eight half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 74 runs, had a successful IPL 2025 for the Punjab Kings, ending as the runners-up after winning the title in 2024 with the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Mumbai-born has overall drilled 604 runs in 17 innings of the recently concluded IPL at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07, scoring six half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 97 runs. Shreyas crossed the 300-run mark in the IPL consecutively since 2017, apart from 2021, when he got 175 runs during the 2021 season.

Iyer was the second leading run-getter of the Champions Trophy 2025 in the victorious campaign. He smacked 243 runs in five innings of the tournament at an average of 48.60 and a strike rate of nearly 80. Many expected Iyer to come back in India’s T20I side for the Asia Cup, but the selectors went down a different route and shouldered the responsibility of vice-captaincy on Shubman Gill.
