WATCH: Shubman Gill names toughest bowler he has faced amid Asia Cup 2025
Shubman Gill opened up about the toughest bowler he faced and special career moments in a recent rapid-fire and podcast appearance.

India’s T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill recently gave fans a peek into his cricketing mind during a rapid-fire segment where he answered some engaging questions. The 26-year-old was last in action during India’s Asia Cup 2025 opener against the UAE on September 10 in Dubai, where he played a brisk cameo of 20* off nine balls. His knock helped India cruise to a dominant nine-wicket win while chasing just 58, with as many as 93 deliveries left.
On Friday, September 12, Sony Sports shared a video of Gill on Instagram, revealing some quirky details, including the fact that he has carried nine bats with him for the ongoing Asia Cup. The Punjab batter picked his close friend Abhishek Sharma as the teammate he would like to bat with for life. He also admitted that he would love to add AB de Villiers’ iconic scoop shot to his arsenal.
In the same session, Gill identified legendary England pacer James Anderson as the toughest bowler he has ever faced. He also looked back at India’s 2025 Champions Trophy triumph, describing it as one of the most special moments of his career. India will next face archrivals Pakistan in their second Asia Cup clash on Sunday, September 14, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Shubman Gill Opens Up on His Cricketing Idols
Gill recently appeared on a YouTube podcast with Apple Music on September 11, where he was asked about the players who inspired him. Speaking candidly, the Indian Test skipper said, “I have had two idols. The first one was Sachin. He was my dad's favorite, and I got into cricket because of him. He retired in 2013. Around 2011, 2012, and 2013 were actually when I started to have real knowledge about cricket, like how the game works—more than just skill, like mental and tactical.”

Continuing further, Gill reflected on his admiration for modern-day great Virat Kohli. He added, “I loved watching Virat bhai, Virat Kohli, how he used to go about his business and just the sheer passion that he had for the game and the real hunger. Because passion and hunger are one thing; you can learn all the skills, all the techniques, and all of that, but hunger is something that you can't learn. Either you have it in you, or you don’t. And it was something that he had so much of, and it really inspired me.”
