The top order batter of the Indian women's cricket team, Jemimah Rodrigues, during the recent interaction on Aaj Tak, has credited this person behind the success of the women's team by winning the World Cup 2025.

The veteran member of the Indian women’s cricket team, Jemimah Rodrigues, thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for the growth and success of women's cricket over the last few years. Rodrigues was the biggest reason for India’s semifinal victory against Australia at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
India started their campaign with two successive wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan before facing three consecutive defeats against South Africa, Australia, and England. But they turned the tables, winning three of the last four clashes, including a no-result against Bangladesh.

“I think, firstly, thanks to BCCI and Jay Sir, who started the WPL. You know, as a journalist, you will understand that everyone was criticizing the team that we had been coming to the crunch situation and losing from that position. Everyone kept criticizing, but no one gave any solutions. I mean, it’s their job. You know, how to overcome those obstacles was by us playing those pressure situations again and again.” Rodrigues expressed in a discussion on Aj Taak.

Along with Rodrigues, the opening batter of the Blue Brigade, Shafali Verma, claimed that Jay Shah gave them equal payment, which helped them in arranging their own grounds for practice, besides getting the outside knowledge from the foreign players in the WPL.

“That’s when the WPL came in, and that changed the entire narrative. It’s just that we had three seasons of the WPL, and we just got our very first World Cup.” Rodrigues addressed in the same interaction as they start preparation for the home T20I series against Sri Lanka.
“Along with the WPL, we also got to learn a lot of things from the foreign players off the field. How do they prepare themselves!! And also thanks to Jay Shah sir for the pay equality, for which we can arrange our own ground for practice. We can also take trainers for fitness. Big thanks to Jay Shah, sir. He is someone who changed women’s cricket. He gave us the belief of winning the World Cup.” Shafali Verma concluded.
