Varun Chakvarthy was always supposed to be the trump card for the Indian side during the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, and he proved it again against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Even under pressure, he has provided the vital wickets in various phases of the game to bring the team back in the contest on many occasions.

After Namibia made a strong start with the bat inside the powerplay during the chase, the onus was on India to put brakes on the run rate, and after a silent over from Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy used the pressure to pick up the wicket of Louren Steenkamp for 13 runs. It was a lovely delivery from the mystery spinner.

The tossed up delivery on the middle stump saw the batter making room slightly to drive as it brought the gap between the bat and pad, and once the middle and leg stumps were found, the ball sneaked through it to break the furniture.

Chakravarthy took two more wickets for India in his second over to end the chase of the Namibia side. The first one came on the second delivery of the tenth over, as the batter, Loftie-Eaton, came down the wicket and didn’t reach the pitch of the ball, and ended up giving the catch to Axar Patel, who was standing at the long-off region.

A ball later, he broke the stumps of JJ Smit, who went for a massive whack for his second ball and was dismissed for a duck. The googly was pitched outside the off stump as it turned and beat the swipe shot of the batter to hit the top of the off-stump.

Earlier in the game, India posted a massive score of 209 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with Ishan Kishan nailing 61 runs in just 24 balls, thanks to six boundaries and five sixes, while Hardik Pandya clubbed 52 runs in 28 balls with the help of four boundaries and as many sixes.

Brief Score: India 209/9 (Ishan Kishan 61, Hardik Pandya 52, Gerhard Erasmus 4/20) vs Namibia 94/6 (Louren Steenkamp 29, Varun Chakravarthy 3/7)
