The left-handed batter of the Indian side, Tilak Varma, gives a vital update on their aggressive opening batter, Abhishek Sharma, ahead of the contest againts Namibia in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Ahead of India’s second encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Tilak Varma, at the press conference, quite naturally answered on the fitness update of Abhishek Sharma, their aggressive opening batter, who missed their mandatory practice session due to a stomach bug.
It was reported that on the morning of February 10, Abhishek Sharma had to be hospitalized due to illness, while Tilak cleared the air, stating that the opener has been discharged and his participation in the clash would be decided on the match day.

“When we reached Delhi, he (Abhishek) had been examined. He went to the hospital for the examination. So I think he has been discharged today, and he’s doing well. We have got one more day for the game, so hopefully we’ll decide by tomorrow (Thursday) how he feels, and we’ll go with it. Bumrah is also available for tomorrow’s match. But we still have one more day to take a final call on the combination.” Varma reckoned in the presser.

Injury has become a part and parcel of the blue brigade in this campaign as Ishan Kishan copped a blow in the net session while facing Jasprit Bumrah, as the batter was hit on the toe. One of the talking points of the press conference was their collapse against the United States of America in Mumbai.

“To be honest, I started well in Mumbai, so I thought the wicket was good, but it wasn’t. I was in flow, and the ball was coming onto the bat nicely, but I was the only exception in that case. When others saw me play, they thought the wicket was okay.” Varma addressed.
“We were late in making the right assessment, but Suryakumar Yadav played a masterclass. We’ve seen that lately – there is always someone who steps up and plays a good innings, which is a very good sign.” The left-handed batter informed.
