Yashasvi Jaiswal run-out on 175 after miscommunication with Shubman Gill.

Yashasvi Jaiswal finished the opening day of the second Test against the West Indies on 173* runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. For that entire day, he was excellent with his proper mindset by being watchful against the new ball bowling of Jayden Seales and Anderson Philips in the morning session before collecting the rewards in the second and third sessions.

The anticipation was to see him cross the 200-run mark and probably become the third batter of the side after Virender Sehwag and Karun Nair to celebrate a 300. But it couldn’t happen with the dream getting broken in the first 10 minutes of the fresh day. Jaiswal punched Seales into the mid-off region and set for a run, watching his partner.

Shubman Gill, standing at the other end, was watching the ball and didn’t take a single step. Jaiswal realized it later and looked to rush back to the crease. The fiery throw came from Tagenarine Chanderpaul at the batting end, where the wicket-keeper broke the stumps to find the batter out of the crease.

At that moment, it looked clear out as the umpires didn’t even think of taking it to the third umpire. However, later the replays showed that the ball perhaps had come off the gloves of the wicket-keeper by the time he broke the stumps. It’s margin and perhaps would still have been out even if the on-field umpires carried it upstairs.

Jaiswal went back to the dressing room for 175 runs in 258 deliveries with the help of 22 boundaries. It’s the fourth-highest individual score for an Indian batter that has ended by a run-out, as the list is won by Sanjay Manjrekar on 218 runs against Pakistan in Lahore nearly 36 years ago.

However, since that wicket, both Gill and Nitish Reddy looked solid in the middle with a partnership of over 80 runs at nearly run-a-ball as they crossed the 400-run mark for the loss of just three wickets in 106 overs.
