[WATCH] 'You deserve to be...'- Shreyas Iyer reveals frustration on not getting deserving spot in Indian team for Asia Cup 2025
Watch the middle order experienced batter of the Indian side, Shreyas Iyer, has revealed his frustration for not getting his deserving spot in the Blue Brigade ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which is due to begin on September 09.

The middle-order batter of the Indian team, Shreyas Iyer, has been in the news for the last couple of weeks after being ignored in the national side for the Asia Cup 2025. The selection committee decided to bring Shubman Gill back into the setup and appoint him as the vice-captain of the side. Many called it an unfortunate incident.
Shreyas finished the Champions Trophy 2025 as the second leading run-getter of the event with 243 runs for India in five innings at an average of 48.60 and a strike rate of nearly 80 with the help of four boundaries and five sixes. He revealed how, at times, it would feel undeserving.

“It’s at times frustrating when you know you deserve to be in the playing XI, but at the same time, when someone else is performing consistently for the team and bringing the best, you’ve got to support them. Eventually, the goal is for the team to win. When the team is winning, everyone is happy.” The Mumbai batter has expressed during a recent podcast.

Iyer, the 30-year-old veteran batter, who has smacked 1104 runs in 47 T20I innings at an average of over 30 and a strike rate of more than 136, has eight half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 74 runs. In the IPL 2025, for the Punjab Kings, he drilled 604 runs in 17 innings at a strike rate of 175.07 with six fifties.
“But as I keep talking about integrity, you need to keep doing the work ethically. It’s not like everyone is watching, and that’s why I should be able to do that. Even if no one is watching, you have to keep doing your work.” Iyer explained in the podcast.
Iyer has got his captaincy for the India A side in the two red-ball encounters at home against Australia A. If he performs well, he could get back in the Indian national side for the two home series against the West Indies and South Africa.
