Indian fans are eager to see the two giants of the game, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, back together on the field. Both the veteran players, having retired from T20Is and Tests, are focused only on the ODIs, due to the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Kohli has been performing beautifully with the bat recently, and there is no doubt about his place for the upcoming ODI WC. However, Rohit didn’t go through a strong patch with the bat till the third ODI of their previous series against England, when he silenced the critics with a fine century at Lord’s.

Rohit and Kohli expected to return for India’s home ODI series

India’s upcoming ODI series will be at home against West Indies, after the end of their three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. The series will begin on September 27 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, where both the right-handed batters are expected to share the field.

The second ODI of the series will be on September 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, while the third encounter will take place on October 03 at the Maharaja Yadavindra International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.

That will be followed by another three-match ODI series in New Zealand when Kohli and Rohit will play next. The first ODI of the series will be on November 04 at the Eden Park in Auckland, while the second game will be on November 07 at the Sky Stadium in Wellington. The third game will be on November 10 at the Seddon Park in Hamilton.

How Rohit and Kohli fared in their last outing for India in England

Since the beginning of 2025, Kohli is India’s second-leading run-getter in the ODI format. He has smashed 1035 runs in 19 innings at an average of 64.68 and a fine strike rate of around 99.8, thanks to four centuries and seven half-centuries, with a best score of 135 runs.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has done decently to be third on the list with his 1029 runs in 23 innings at an average of 46.77 and a blistering strike rate of 100, with the help of three centuries and five half-centuries at the best score of 138 runs.

Kohli and Rohit’s experience in ODIs for India, especially on the bouncy surfaces of South Africa, for the World Cup, will be incredibly vital.
