Why Are There Two Stars on India’s Jersey?

India’s T20I jersey has two stars above the BCCI logo to show the two T20 World Cups the team has won. India won their first T20 World Cup in 2007 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni by defeating Pakistan by five runs in the final.

India won their second T20 World Cup title after 17 years under Rohit Sharma. They beat South Africa by seven runs in the final match played in Barbados.

India Begins T20I Series by Batting First

In the first T20I match at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, India were asked to bat first. The team got stronger with the return of vice-captain Shubman Gill and all-rounder Hardik Pandya after injury.

Gill missed the second Test and ODI series due to a neck injury. Hardik returned after missing the later part of the Asia Cup 2025 because of a leg injury.

After winning the toss, South Africa captain Aiden Markram said they chose to bowl first because of the dew. He said the conditions in India would help both teams prepare well for the World Cup.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav said the pitch looked greener earlier but he was happy to bat first and defend the total. He added that dew makes bowling difficult later in the game.

Suryakumar also said the team sees this series as good practice. He named the players who missed out on the match: Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, and Harshit Rana.
