'Will rectify mistakes' - PBKS' Shashank Singh send strong message ahead of IPL 2026
PBKS’ Shashank Singh vows to rectify past mistakes ahead of IPL 2026, expressing confidence in the team’s plans for a stronger comeback this season

The fans are waiting eagerly for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 to start on March 28, just nine days away. As the countdown starts, the players have arrived at their training camps in their respective home grounds ahead of the tournament. The runners-up of the previous season, Punjab Kings (PBKS), will start their campaign against the Gujarat Titans on March 31 in New Chandigarh.
PBKS batter Shashank Singh sent a strong message to the other teams ahead of the tournament during an interview. He was asked about the team's performance in the previous season as they came close to winning the title, and what their upcoming plans are. Shashank admitted that the franchise played well but failed to win the trophy. Hence, they will try to 'rectify the mistakes' in this season.
"Punjab Kings have not won a trophy, and it has been 18 years to be précised, we learnt last year and will rectify the mistakes and make sure to make everyone proud and celebrate together. Last year's result at the home ground was not in our favour, but we have rectified the mistakes, especially as a batting unit, we have worked where we struggled last year in the technical part. And you will see that we will perform better this year," said Shashank Singh as quoted by PTI.

Shashank Singh was star performer for PBKS in IPL 2025
In IPL 2025, Punjab Kings had a strong year on-field with Shashank Singh leading them to wins with consistent hitting from 350 runs over 17 matches (50.00 avg; 153.50 strike rate) while being calm under pressure - as shown by 3 half centuries. His greatest performance came in the championship game, where he hit 61 not out in 30 balls to help give the Kings a chance at winning the title.
Unfortunately, despite his great performance, the Punjab Kings couldn't pull out the championship win against RCB, making Shashank's 61* brilliant but in the end an unsuccessful finish. Shashank also had some great performances earlier in the season such as a 44 off 16 against the Gujarat Titans at home which displayed his ability to finish games. Overall, Shashank finished 5th in his teams' scoring for the season, which is an improvement from 354 in 2024 as he showed he is becoming more consistent.
