With the PSL title won by Lahore Qalandars, Afridi broke Smith and Sharma's world record in T20 cricket

As a result of a win over Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, Shaheen Afridi led Lahore Qalandars to their first Pakistan Super League (PSL) title. Shaheen defeated Steve Smith of Australia and Rohit Sharma of India for the first time in T20 cricket history. 

Afridi, 21, became the youngest captain in history to win a major T20 league after guiding Mumbai Indians to their first IPL win in 2013 at age 26. He beat Sydney Sixers captain Smith, 22, who led them to their first Big Bash win in 2012 at the age of 22, and Rohit, 26, who led them to their first IPL title in 2013. Despite not qualifying for the playoffs in their first five seasons, they finished as runners-up in 2020 and won their first Championship in 2022. Before Mohammed Hafeez’s 46-ball 69 revived the innings, Harry Brook and David Wiese added the finishing touches with their unbeaten runs. Lahore decided to bat first in front of their home crowd; however, in the powerplay, they lost three wickets. 

”It’s an impressive accomplishment. I would like to thank the Lahore crowd for holding out for six years. We have had a lot of support from the Lahore crowd. I had many supporters. Throughout my college career, Hafeez guided me through numerous stressful moments, so I am grateful to all those who supported me. In the postmatch presentation, Afridi explained how we had a great attitude to fight to the end as a team throughout the tournament,” stated Afridi during a recent interaction with the media.
