Star India batter Virat Kohli smashed his 84th international century against South Africa at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. The former India captain is in tremendous form, scoring his second consecutive ton against the Proteas. In the previous match, he hit 135 off 120 balls, and he carried that momentum into the second ODI, strengthening his case for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

This was also Kohli’s 40th international century at home. Only Sachin Tendulkar is ahead of him on that list. If the 37-year-old continues playing ODIs until 2027, he will have a strong chance to break yet another of Tendulkar’s world records.

Many legendary cricketers praised Kohli’s outstanding knock, but former India opener Virender Sehwag’s reaction quickly went viral.

Hum log centuries gin rahe hote hain, woh bas routine ka kaam samajh ke kar deta hai. Back-to-back 100s for the King. 53rd ODI hundred. Virat hai toh mumkin hai.”

Sehwag also praised Ruturaj Gaikwad, saying, “A brilliant century from Ruturaj Gaikwad as well, making batting look very easy.”

Gaikwad Hits His Maiden ODI Hundred

Ruturaj Gaikwad, batting at No. 4 in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, also shone in the second ODI. He scored his maiden ODI century—105 off 83 balls—playing with a strong strike rate and showing great control. His innings ended in the 36th over after a delivery from Marco Jansen.

The Kohli-Gaikwad pair added 195 runs for the third wicket, putting India firmly in control. With a strong platform set, KL Rahul has moved up to No. 5 as India looks to finish big in the last 10 overs and push close to the 400-run mark.
