The former captain-turned-head coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid, will be awarded the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Naman awards of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as the program has been scheduled to be held on March 15 in Delhi. He was part of the winning campaign for the T20 World Cup 2024 with leader Rohit Sharma.

Along with Rahul Dravid, Shubman Gill, the Test and ODI captain of the side, is also going to receive the Cricketer of the Year award. In contrast, the opening batter of the Mumbai side, Ayush Mhatre, who recently led the India U19 to the World Cup title with the win over England in Harare, will be recognized for his show with the Lala Amarnath Awards for the best all-rounder in the domestic limited-overs cricket.

The BCCI has been contemplating bestowing the Indian captain, Mitali Raj, with the lifetime award. Dravid was part of India’s famous ‘fab four’ batting line-up with Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman.

Even after the commentators and various persons often rated him as one of the finest Test batters of his generation and among the greatest of all time, the 53-year-old was an integral part of an Indian batting line-up that helped him shed the tag of being easy opponents away from home. Dravid’s skill of anchoring the innings earned him the nickname ‘the Wall’ for a long period.

The right-handed batter ended his career with more than 10000 ODI runs. It was in Test cricket that Dravid was at his most effective, scoring heavily both at home and away. After his retirement in 2012, he took up the commentary assignments before moving into the coaching role.

Dravid took charge of the India U19 side, guiding them to the 2018 U19 WC title with a squad that won the title in Prithvi Shaw’s captaincy. They also worked closely with the India A side. Dravid became the head coach of the senior team and finished as the runners-up of the 2023 ODI World Cup before winning the T20 WC 2024, in the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
