During the opening Test of the two-match series between India and Sri Lanka at the Galle Cricket Club, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s bizarre deflection off his body helped Ravindra Jadeja pick up the 350th wicket of his career. That was a shocking way for the fielder to pick up the wicket.

On the third day of the Test match, India’s fielders struggled a little as KL Rahul dropped a couple of catches in the slip region. Once, the ball dropped a few yards short of the fielder, while on the other occasion, he was slow to react to the ball that came at a very rapid pace.

It was the fourth delivery of the 67th over of the innings when Keshar Nuwantha was down on one leg to slap drive Ravindra Jadeja’s away-turner delivery through the off-side. He smashed the ball really well as the man at silly point was in the firing zone.

It was Yashasvi Jaiswal who actually jumped to try and evade it. But the ball hit the right knee of the fielder and ballooned up in the air. Unfortunately for the batter, the ball went towards the Indian captain, Shubman Gill, who moved to his right and back from cover to complete the catch.

It was the 350th Test wicket for Jadeja, who has now become the third most successful left-arm spinner in the history of the longest format and stands only behind Daniel Vettori and Rangana Herath.

Can India set Sri Lanka a massive target?

India, winning the toss, opted to bat first and recorded 462 runs in their first innings, where Devdutt Padikkal smashed 167 runs, thanks to 15 boundaries and one six. Rahul and Dhruv Jirel also celebrated their respective fifties, while the rest of the line-up also made small contributions.

Sri Lanka, in reply, were bundled out for 284 runs as Sonal Dinusha drilled 100 runs off 168 balls along with Niroshan Dickwell’s 80 runs. Manav Suthar ended with figures of 4/76 while Jadeja returned with 3/57 in 21 overs.
