During the contest in the County Championship Division Two 2026 between Northamptonshire and Durham at the County Ground in Northampton, the Indian leg spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, bowled an absolute magical delivery to dismiss the former England captain and all-rounder, Ben Stokes, as the ball went viral on social media. 

Ben Stokes has recently returned from the game after the end of their three-match Test series against New Zealand, which took place at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Many reckoned that he decided at the eleventh hour after he was banned from the second game due to the drinking allegations at Lord’s after their win.

How Chahal's sharp-turning leg-break breached Stokes' defence to crash into the stumps

It was the third delivery of the 47th over of the innings when Chahal bowled a beautiful leg spin to Stokes. The ball pitched away from the left-handed batter’s off stump and spun to beat the inside edge of the southpaw and broke the stumps. Stokes tried to defend but had no idea of the spin direction.

The former England captain stood there in disbelief for a moment before leaving the ground. It was a viral wicket for the home side as Stokes could prove to be dangerous for the opposition on any occasion. He was dismissed for 14 runs off 22 balls with the help of two boundaries.

Meanwhile, Chahal returned with four wickets in his 15.2 overs at an economy rate of 2.30. It was a superb performance from the leg spinner, who hasn’t played international cricket for India for more than three years.

The 36-year-old Indian spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, has overall picked up 132 wickets in 73 innings of first-class cricket before this contest at an average of 34.35 and a strike rate of 65.50, thanks to his six four-wicket hauls and five five-wicket hauls at the best bowling figures of 6/44 in an innings.

In the County Championship 2026, Chahal has been fantastic with the ball as he picked up three wickets in the game against Lancashire in Manchester before adding two more wickets against Kent. He also featured in the One-Day Cup and did well with the ball.
