It is the third time Bangladesh are touring India to play a Test match. Bangladesh played their first Test in India during the 2017 India tour for a one-off Test match. Later, during their 2019 India tour, Bangladesh played a two-match Test series against the hosts.
This upcoming two-match Test series will be a part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship. Previously, in both the first two editions of the ICC World Test Championships, they played Test series.
While India hosted the two-match Test series during the 2019-2021 ICC World Test Championship, Bangladesh hosted the two-match Test series during the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship. India won both those Test series by 2-0.
India vs Bangladesh Test cricket: Key facts
- During the first innings of the India vs Bangladesh Mirpur Test match in May 2007, India became the first team in Test cricket history where the team’s all top four batters recorded centuries in the same Test innings. Openers Dinesh Karthik and Wasim Jaffer scored 129 and 138 (retired ill) runs, respectively, while the next two batters, captain Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, scored 129 and 122 not out, respectively.
- In the India vs Bangladesh Test match record book, Bangladesh cricketer Aminul Islam is the only batter to score a century on Test debut innings. During the 2000 Dhaka Test, Islam scored 145 runs in the first innings of the match.
- Apart from Aminul Islam, another Bangladesh batter Zakir Hasan also recorded a century on his Test debut. He recorded it during the 2022 Chattogram Test, where Hasan scored 100 runs, but in the fourth innings of the Test match, which was his second innings on his Test debut.
- Former Indian left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan holds the record for the most wickets by a pacer against Bangladesh in a Test series. During India's tour of Bangladesh in 2004/05, Pathan took 18 wickets.
