Top 5 largest wins for India in Tests ft. IND vs AFG 2026 one-off Test
Here is the list of five largest victories for the Indian cricket team in Test cricket. They have showed their dominance with the bat in all of these occasions before troubling the oppositions with the bowling.

India bundled out the Afghanistan side twice in 94.3 overs across two innings in around a day for scores of 152 and 112 runs during the one-off Test match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh to earn their largest red-ball victories in innings and 300 runs.
The home side showed their dominance with both bat and ball, besides being superb in the field. It was a vital win for the team, who faced two home series defeats against South Africa and New Zealand in the last two successive years.

#1 IND vs AFG 2026 in New Chandigarh- win by inns and 300 runs

It was the very first Test match of the year 2026 for the Shubman Gill-led side, who started their home season, just a few days after the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the one-off Test against Afghanistan, they played at a new venue in the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the innings after winning the toss and opting to bat first in the extreme heat, India were able to put up a few strong partnerships in the top order. Their veteran opener, KL Rahul, celebrated a fine century with the help of 11 boundaries.
Gill continued his growth as the leader with 126 runs besides his name, scoring 13 boundaries at a strike rate of nearly 80, thanks to 15 boundaries and one six. Both Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar celebrated their fifties as India declared on 564/8 in 127 overs.

Their debutant left-arm spinner, Manav Suthar, went through the Afghanistan line-up to blow them away for 152 runs with a splendid figure of 6/33 in 22 overs. After taking the follow-on, India bundled out the visitors for just 112 runs in the second innings to register their largest Test win by an innings and 300 runs.

#2 IND vs WI 2018 in Rajkot- win by inns & 272 runs-

It was the first Test of the two-match series between India and West Indies at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot when India batted first and posted a massive score of 649 runs in 149.5 overs. After a thrilling century from debutant opening batter Prithivi Shaw, who made 134 runs at a strike rate of 87.01, their captain took charge.
Virat Kohli, the skipper, celebrated a fine knock of 139 runs while Ravindra Jadeja also remained unbeaten on 100 runs off just 132 balls, scoring five boundaries and as many sixes.
The tired visitors got bundled out for just 181 runs in their first innings as only Roston Chase was able to get to his half-century. Keemon Paul added 47 runs in the lower order while Ravichandran Ashwin bagged four wickets in 11 overs.

There was no improvement from their batting in the second innings after India enforced the follow-on. They were blown away for 196 runs, with Kieran Powell being the only shining light with 83 runs, thanks to eight boundaries and four sixes. Kuldeep showed his magic to return with 5/57 in 14 overs.

#3 IND vs AFG 2018 in Bengaluru- win by inns & 262 runs

It was a historical Test match between India and Afghanistan at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was the very first red-ball contest for the sub-continent side from June 14. Due to India’s upcoming series against England, many players, including Kohli, were rested for the clash as Ajinkya Rahane was the leader of the side.
India ended up with 474 runs in 104.5 overs as both the openers, Muli Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan, brought up their respective centuries. The latter was superbly aggressive and reached the three-figure mark in the first session to end up with 107 runs off 96 balls at a strike rate of 111.46, thanks to 19 boundaries and three sixes.

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul also got their respective fifties. In reply, none of the Afghanistan batters got a score of more than 25 runs in the first innings as the new members of the side got bowled out for 109 runs. Ashwin claimed 4/27 in eight overs.
India rightly enforced the follow-on and packed up the opposition for 103 runs to earn an innings and 262-run win in just two days. This time Jadeja picked up 4/17 in his nine overs.
Rahane showed a great gesture in this game when he called the entire Afghanistan side during the presentation ceremony and took a team photo together.

#4 IND vs BAN 2007 in Mirpur- win by inns and 239 runs

The first Test at the Bir Shrestho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Staidum in Chattogram between India and Bangladesh in 2007 ended in a draw. The second Test of the two-match series was vital to get the winners as the action moved to the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
The visitors batted first and put up a huge score of 610 runs for the loss of only three wickets in 153 overs. Out of their six batters to bat in the first innings, four of them crossed the three-figure mark. Wasim Jaffer was the highest individual run-getter with an unbeaten 138 runs, thanks to 17 boundaries.

Meanwhile, the two openers, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, also notched up their respective centuries after putting up an opening stand of 281 runs. At number four, Dinesh Karthik also ended up with 129 runs, with the help of 16 boundaries.
In reply, Bangladesh were rolled over for just 118 runs, with Shakib Al Hasan finishing with the highest score of 30 runs. Zaheer Khan troubled the hosts with 5/34 in 10 overs.
It was a better batting show from the side in the second innings as they ended up with 253 runs. Both Mohammad Ashraful and Mashrafe Mortaza got their respective half-centuries as Ramesh Power ended up with 3/33 in 16 overs.
However, it was enough for India to bag a massive win by an innings and 239 runs, which was at the top of this list at that time and remained so for a long time.

#5 IND vs SL 2017 in Nagpur- win by inns and 239 runs

It was the second Test of the three-match series between India and Sri Lanka at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur in 2017. The first Test of the series was drawn at Eden Gardens due to the bad light as the hosts tried their best to get the result in their favor.
In Nagpur, Sri Lanka batted first on a good surface and were bundled out for just 205 runs, which was never going to challenge a strong Indian batting line-up. Two visiting batters, Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal, got their fifties but failed to convert them into big scores.
R Ashwin picked up four wickets in 28.1 overs at an economy rate of 2.40, while both Ishant Sharma and Jadeja picked up three wickets each. The blue brigade didn’t lose wickets at the cluster and took a lead of 405 runs in the first innings.

Kohli celebrated a fine double century, thanks to 17 boundaries and two sixes, at a strike rate of 80. On the other hand, Murli Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara also got their centuries besides their names. Rohit Sharma, coming down the order, also recorded a fine knock of 102 runs before the hosts declared.
Sri Lanka were expected to show some fight in the second innings. But they surrendered and lost their last five wickets for just 64 runs. Ashwin also picked up four wickets as the SL captain, D Chandimal, got a fifty. The victory by innings and 239 runs is India’s fifth-largest Test victory in the history of the game.
