In the history of Test cricket, India and Sri Lanka have faced each other in 46 Tests. Out of those, the blue brigade has earned 22 wins at a win-loss ratio of 3.14, while the latter has bagged seven victories at a win-loss ratio of 0.318, ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series in 2026. 

In the previous Test series between the two sides in 2021/22, the blue brigade grabbed the two-match series victory by a 2-0 margin. The last red-ball series victory for the Sri Lankan side against India came in 2008 by a margin of 2-1.

Most runs in Sri Lanka vs India Test history

Between the two sides, in the longest format, India’s Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-getter with the bat, having smashed 1995 runs in 36 innings at an average of 60.45, shouldering nine fifties and six centuries at the best score of 203.

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, has clubbed 1085 runs in just 11 games at an average of 67.81, shouldering on two fifties and five centuries at the best score of 243. For Sri Lanka, Mahela Jayawardene leads the chart with 1822 runs in just 28 innings, thanks to eight fifties and six centuries.

India to meet Sri Lanka in 2026 series — Squads and full schedule

In preparation for the two-match Test series, India played a three-day warm-up fixture against Sri Lanka XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo, where most of their batters and bowlers did really well to get some overs under the belt along with runs for the batters.

The opening Test of the series will be held on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium while the second game will take place on August 23 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
