The Asia Cup is a predominant limited-overs cricket competition on the cricketing calendar. The competition shows the skill of Asian cricketing titans, giving a stage for intense matches and exceptional performances. Many renowned batters have made an indelible imprint on the Asia Cup, carving their names as leading run scorers in the annals of cricketing history. This content delves into the lives and accomplishments of the top five Asia Cup run scorers, giving light to their incredible travels, aggregate runs, batting averages, and highest scores.

Sanath Jayasuriya- 1220 Runs (Sri Lanka)

Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuriya, the yesteryear modern-day power-hitter, tops the list of highest run scorers. In 25 games, the left-hander scored 1220 runs. He also has the most appearances in the Asia Cup. However, this does not alter the fact that his average of 53 and strike rate of 102 are the best for any batter. Indeed, it is a testament to his ability to dominate any bowling attack. Jayasuriya’s audacious approach to batting left an indelible impact on the limited-overs format, inspiring future generations.

Kumar Sangakarra- 1075 Runs (Sri Lanka)

Kumar Sangakarra

Kumara Sangakkara of Sri Lanka is the second-highest run-scorer in the Asia Cup (ODI format). From 2004 until 2014, the talented left-hander allowed 1075 runs in 23 innings. In the tournament’s history, he has four centuries and eight half-centuries.

In the 2008 edition, Sangakkara scored 121 against Bangladesh. It was the same game in which Jayasuriya recorded his highest Asia Cup score. Sangakkara averaged 48.86, higher than his career ODI average of 41.98.

Sachin Tendulkar- 971 Runs (India)

Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, India’s great hitter, is third among the top five Asia Cup run scorers. From 1990 through 2012, the Master Blaster appeared in only 23 matches and scored 971 runs at an astounding average of 51.10. His most incredible score of 114 came in his most recent event, the 2012 Asia Cup.

The top three run scorers in tournament history had the greatest score against Bangladesh. Tendulkar hit 114 against Bangladesh, his 100th international century. Tendulkar has two hundred and seven half-centuries in the history of the continental extravaganza.

Shoaib Malik- 786 Runs (Pakistan)

Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik of Pakistan is well-recognised for his fielding abilities rather than his batting and bowling abilities. In only 17 games, the all-rounder has scored 768 runs. Malik has the highest average among the top five run scorers (65.5).

Malik recorded three centuries and three half-centuries. His best ODI score of 143 against India in 2004 at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium is his best ODI score. Shoaib’s success in this competition may be measured by the fact that one-third of his ODI centuries have come in only 17 Asia Cup matches. He appeared in 287 One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Rohit Sharma- 745 Runs (India)

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, who will captain India in the next 2023 Asia Cup, made his Asia Cup debut in 2008 and has played 22 matches in the competition. In 21 innings, the 36-year-old has hit 745 runs at a 45.56 average. He scored only one century in the 2018 Asia Cup against Pakistan in Dubai.

In the continental tournament, he has six fifties. Rohit might overtake Jayasuriya for the most matches played in the tournament’s history if he shows his impeccable calibre in a few more games in the coming edition.
