A side that has failed to win an ICC event since 2013 takes on a side known to crumble in the finishing stages. South Africa are a step away from their first World Cup trophy. They finally had that one perfect game against Afghanistan. Their bowlers are falling together well and the momentum is falling in nicely. What is missing? Not much.
Against them though are India who did not have too many hurdles so far, barring a close win against Pakistan. Their bowling attack has looked very good but their batting line-up has some concerns especially with Virat Kohli failing at the top. They have another chance at ending their trophy drought, making their third Final in the last 12 months.
In the end, though the narrative stands with two sides known to crumble under pressure taking each other on. South Africa come in having handled a lot of pressure with close games on their way and that could help ease their nerves when the going gets tough in a Final.
Date: June 29th, 2024
Time: 8:00 PM IST
Venue: Bridgetown, Barbados
Clear weather and a nice morning is expected for the game.
Bridgetown has seen some good scores for sides which have batted well. Their is some spin, but good batting gets rewarded with sides here looking comfortable when they get going.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav
Quinton De Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markaram, Heinrich Klaasen, Tristin Stubbs, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi, Keshav Maharaj
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has struggled all tournament. Ideally, T20 World Cups have had him carry the Indian Team, but they have supported him in this case. With one more game to go and with his future in the format uncertain, Virat Kohli will be very desperate to make a mark. He has a hunger and his competitive spirit is well known. He loves the big stage and the upcoming game could well be his moment to make amends.
Quinton De Kock
If anyone can kill a pressure game early it is Quinton De Kock. His batting style often sees him play the same regardless of the situation and his flair is what South Africa will need in a high-pressure game. A good start from him will be what South Africa needs to get the scoreboard ticking and the tables moving towards them.
India has been the most convincing side so far. South Africa though has pushed hard to get to where they are. Finals, as India has noticed many times in the past are all about handling pressure. Both sides are not the greatest at doing that but South Africa, having had their share of close games in the tournament may feel a little more used to the scenario, and could be the one that holds their nerve better for a change this time around.
